Xbox 720 has been fully detailed to some third-parties, Cpt Gaming has learned, and has been slotted in for a Christmas 2013 release. And yes: of course it’ll have a Blu-ray drive. Cpt Gaming has learned that Microsoft has now detailed Xbox 720 to certain partners and has internally confirmed the machine for a Christmas 2013 release. The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive, contrary to a recent report.Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”
We’re waiting for final confirmation of specs, but the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. The GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, in which the two chips take it in turns to draw lines of the same object: Xbox 720′s graphics units will be able to work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.
It was reported last week that PlayStation 4, internally codenamed Orbis, will also be powered by AMD hardware.
There will be “four or six” cores to the Xbox 720 CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS.
Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.
We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.
The details have emerged in the wake of a hastily removed tweet from Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, that said he was attending the “Durango summit” in London at the end of February. Durango is though to be the codename for the console.
Microsoft is not expected to announce anything pertaining to its next machine until next year.
Many developers have been posting job openings for “next-gen” and “future-gen” systems for months.
Lionhead and Bethesda are just two of the latest.

We're seven years into this generation of gaming (we couldn't believe it either), and those seven years have delivered a series of unforgettable stories. That's when we decided to name our top 5 gaming protagonists of this generation, which was actually a lot harder than we first anticipated. The rules for selection were simple; be a talking protagonist (sorry Gordon Freeman) who first appeared on the Xbox 360, PS3 or Nintendo Wii to be eligible. So join us as we remember some of our favourite characters.
John Marston - Red Dead Redemption
Cool, calm, collected and an ultimate bad arse. That's why we loved John Marston from Red Dead Redemption, his dark and mysterious past caught up with the honourable family man ideals. Not only was his tale rather remarkable, but the way he told us about his thoughts and emotions really fleshed him out as a character.
Alan Wake - Alan Wake
Alan Wake is as close as we're ever going to get to having Stephen King as a playable character in a video game. The best selling thriller writer was a joy to play through his self-titled debut, as we dealt with a recurring theme of light and darkness. Alan had a very human quality to him - he wasn't a trained soldier or a gun-toting redneck, but rather a very human and civilised author who was stuck in a nightmare that he couldn't wake up from. A compelling character that we enjoyed spending time with.
Commander Shepard - Mass Effect
Whether a Hero or a Tyrant, You take control of Commander Shepard, A battle-hardened and some times Cynical Bad ass Captain of the Normandy Shepard has seen and done it all, from saving Colonies and Galaxies to making love to sweet sweet Alien women. When Shepard is sent out on a mission one thing comes to mind "Get it done right with as few Casualties as possible
Niko Bellic - Grand Theft Auto IV
It's not very often a video game will put you in control of a Eastern European immigrant, but that's what Rockstar Gamed did with Grand Theft Auto IV. The Niko Bellic tale is one full of trauma, hardships, depression and cynicism. Half the fun of GTA IV was learning more about Niko between missions, and to see how he would handle certain social situations. Playing as a character who just arrived in a new city, in a foreign country is a foreign concept in itself, but it really panned out, making Niko one of the most memorable protagonists of this generation.
Nathan Drake - Uncharted
Very rarely do video game characters ooze personality and charm at every turn, but Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series is without a doubt, the most likeable character in gaming. He is also the most realistic character too, showing flaws in everything he does which draws the player in. He can be a little arrogant at times, yet he is a genuine guy who becomes fixated on his goals. Drake often opens his mouth at the wrong time, and should feel right at home for any Indiana Jones fans out there. All in all, love or hate the series, Nathan Drake is one of the most human characters in gaming.

Thanks to the incredible work of Justin™ at Indepth Design or as he's known here on Cpt Gaming Tampaba1 we have a completely new, Custom skin designed specifically for Cpt Gaming. It's a darker theme so those who were concerned about how overly bright the Website was on Low Resolution screens should no longer have this problem. The new skin has a neutral, sleek feel to it, and all of the Staff are absolutely thrilled about it! A huge thanks goes out to Justin™ for making this all possible, keep on keeping on, Brother!
If you see any bugs be sure to bring it to the attention of a staff member immediately and we'll take care of it ASAP.

Toggle this category Halo 4 to Introduce Perks. 343 Assures "Halo is not Call of Duty!"

Earlier today, 343 Industries gave Halo fans and inside look at the upcoming sequel, Halo 4. If you missed it, you can check it out right here. Not only did we get to see how the campaign is shaping up, but we also got our first glimpse at Halo 4′s multiplayer. With the exception of the fact that maps are being developed with the competitive audience in mind, that the Battlerifle will be making a return and that the multiplayer will be more connected to the lore of Halo, much info has yet to be revealed. Luckily, Eurogamer was able to learn an interesting fact: Halo 4′s multiplayer will introduce a system similar to Call of Duty’s perks and Battlefield’s specializations. It has been revealed that players will be able to fully customize their Spartan IV’s armor, much like previous Halo titles, but which will now directly affect the gameplay. This is obviously a fairly drastic change to the already well-established Halo-style gameplay. Franchise Director, Frank O’Connor admits, “I expect a variety of different reactions.” However, he made it clear, “we’ve a tremendous amount of respect for Bungie and for the universe that they created, and yet we do want to take our own unique view on Halo and on where we want to take the franchise is in the future. It’s about finding the balance so it’s still Halo yet still feels fresh.” Apparently, this isn’t the only thing that may trigger some passionate reactions among the community. ”What we showed today is in some ways really traditional. Some of the more revolutionary stuff that we’re going to be doing is going to create more fuss, and I think it’s going to be mostly positive fuss, as it’s all been carefully thought out and considered.”
So far, the reactions to this new gameplay mechanic have been accusatory of 343 Industries essentially copying the gameplay of shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield. O’Connor assures, “what we do take very seriously is changing player habits. So rather than chasing Call of Duty or Battlefield and trying to do their thing and doing it poorly and doing injustice to it, we’re trying to do our own thing, and do something fairly original but still something that’s completely compatible with the Halo universe.” He continued, “Halo’s not Call of Duty. Halo’s a sandbox game about really emergent things. A lot of things that worked great about Call of Duty – and don’t get me wrong, I was addicted Black Ops all of last year – they do player rewards really well. We’re not trying to do the same thing, it’s as simple as that. We’re trying to do something else, and to push our game forwards and not theirs.” What O’Connor seems to be trying to push to fans is that 343 Industries is ”not chasing anybody else’s tail – all the pressure comes from inside.”
